Family members accompanying Canada-Based Staff (CBS) can easily apply for their security clearance to work at mission.
Who can apply?
Spouses, common-law partners, and dependents (18 or older) are all welcome to apply.
Canadian citizens can aim for Secret-level clearance, while permanent residents may obtain Reliability Status with Site Access clearance.
When should I apply?
The ideal time to apply is as soon as you receive your Posting Confirmation Form (PCF), prior to departure. If you’re already at mission, no worries; just connect with the Management Consular Officer (MCO) for assistance.
How to apply – It’s easy!
- Grab the Security Screening Application Consent Form (TBS330-61) and fill it out.
- Attach a copy of your Posting Confirmation Form.
- Send both documents

Quick Tip: Obtaining clearance doesn’t guarantee a job at the mission, but it might be needed to apply for new positions or short term contracts on site.
This will help you with Government of Canada employment in Ottawa, too.
You can also apply for security clearance while in Canada, between posts or after post.
